The bridge system suite is comprised of two visual bridge simulators
(each with an operational electronic chart and positioning systems)
and two radar/navigation simulators described below:
The two visual bridge simulators are used for both training and
research tasks including work in areas such as vessel and bridge
resource management, shiphandling, basic rules of the road,
emergency response, tug operations, vessel and harbor
familiarization, and port design.
The facility, located on the banks of the Maumee River in Toledo,
incorporating training equipment and systems that ensure quality
hands-on experiences.
There are dynamic models available for bridge simulation and
navigation including Great Lake ore carriers and selected deep-sea
vessels. Traffic vessels and several different types of water crafts
are also available as simulator models.
